Morning Prayer

Saturday August 29th

MORNING PRAYER

WELCOME to our Morning Prayer service. We begin each day by offering praise to God, our Creator and King. This is an important part of our curriculum in that we strive to teach our children to worship God with their whole being: heart, mind, and body.

On this page, we use a † to designate where it is customary to make the sign of the cross and a / where it is customary to bow. These physical actions of devotion to Christ are not required of you or your children but if you would like to know more about these parts of the Christian tradition please ask any of our staff.

OPENING

Leader

Lord Jesus join us and fill our hearts with love for you and for all you have made. Amen.

Leader

† O God, make speed to save us.

All

O Lord, make haste to help us.

/ Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be;
world without end. Amen.

PSALM / SCRIPTURE RECITATION

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; *
I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures; *
he leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul; *
he leads me in paths of righteousness for his Name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, *
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; *
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, *
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

/ Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be;
world without end. Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSON
A short story from the Scriptures is read. At the end of the reading…

Leader

The word of the Lord.

All

Thanks be to God. (sung)

SONG: Lord Have Mercy

Lord have mercy upon us.
Christ have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

2 Corinthians 13:14

CLOSING HYMN

Come Thou Fount
Robert Robinson, 1758

Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’ve come.
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God.
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed his precious blood.

Oh to grace, how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be.
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
