Today is our first word building lesson! Please make sure you have the letter tiles listed above on a magnetic cookie sheet or fridge so your child may move them around.
Follow along with Mrs. Resendez as she teaches you and your child how to build words, starting with the word “red”.
Continue playing with these words until your child recognizes each one. Write them down on the second page of their Word Journal. Review their words from yesterday’s lesson!
- Math – 15 minutes
Materials
- Abacus tiles
- Blue Hundreds Chart

Click the video below and watch along with your child.
Help your child fill out numbers 21 – 40 on their Hundreds Chart. Please use the place value cards if your child is struggling to visualize the numbers. Start with the 20 card and lay the 1 card on top of the 0, making the number 21. Continue from there up to 40.
- Music – Hymns – 5 – 10 minutes
Congratulations! We finished our whole hymn. Sing along as you listen from the beginning to the end and don’t forget to listen in the afternoons and evenings to keep it fresh in your memory.

Materials
- Handwriting Workbook – page 68
- Crayon
Please watch along with your child and ensure they are writing their letter Y correctly.
Spend the next 5 minutes of the lesson practicing writing the letter Y with your child using their finger. They will enjoy writing on soft, squishy or hard surfaces or even on your back! You can also use play-dough, spaghetti noodles or shaving cream to practice writing the letter Y.

- Pencil
- Scissors
Complete another Doing Words exercise with your child. See this video for a demonstration by Erica and Zenie.

- Picture Study – 15 minutes

Review the three paintings we have studied this term by asking the following questions: What is the artist’s name? How are they all similar? How are they different? Which one is your favorite? Why?
Try to match the titles of the paintings to the correct painting:
- The End of the 20th Century
- Lifeboat
- Heartland
- Literature – 15 minutes
We have finished The Classic Adventures of Brer Rabbit! Find a good book to read this afternoon or evening before bed.
Keep up the great work, Kindergarten families!
As always, reading with your child in the evenings is a great way to grow their mental word bank and fluency, and they may want to show their Math Card Deck to a parent or sibling after dinner!

See you tomorrow for School Day #102.
